  • Jewellery Care?
Every piece of Dahab Jewellery is handmade with love and care. Please keep in mind that the nature of huggies are dainty and delicate as with most necklaces, charms and bracelets; they must be treated well and cared for properly to last a long time. Plated jewellery is often dipped or vermeil, meaning, brass (or another metal) has been dipped in a coat of genuine metal. Plated jewellery is an elegant, yet affordable option. The longevity of the plating quality will be dependent on how the jewellery is treated (maintenance) and worn. The item(s) will tarnish over time if cared for recklessly, however, the speed will be contingent on a number of factors (e.g. but not limited to hot / humid conditions). Any moisture or creams, such as, rain, water, sweat, perfume, lotions, make up will add to the oxidation process that causes the jewellery to tarnish and wear. It is recommended that to preserve your beautful Dahab Jewellery that it is the last thing you put on (before going out), or the first thing you take off (before going to bed to avoid crushing / damage) and of course to be taken off before any showers and sheltered from rain pour. Our chains for necklaces and bracelets, as well as huggies and charms; are plated with precious metals, either gold, white gold, rhodium plated, silver plated or filled. Each Dahab Jewellery piece will have its own unique break down specification. you can use a gentle cloth to wipe / remove any dust or dirt.
  • How do I take care of my Dahab Jewellery?
Try to be mindful and avoid situations where your Dahab Jewellery can come in contact with water (rain, soap, water, sweat, shower, perfume, lotions, bodily sprays and make up), as these can discolour and damage the jewellery. Please remove items before showers (stored in a dry place away from the bathroom), sports and sleeping. Safely store Dahab Jewellery in either a personal jewellery box / stand. This way, our Dahab Jewellery products will stay beautiful for a long time.
  • Can I shower or swim with my Dahab Jewellery?
It is not recommended, no. Because of the dainty nature of the items and that most are plated with precious metals - in the interest of preserving their appearance, quality and saftey from breakage (damage), please remove before getting into the shower and stored in a dry place away from the bathroom and humidity from hot showers. Please ensure that you are dry before putting back on your Dahab Jewellery. Equally, please remove before swimming or conducting any sports to avoid sweat and water. Of course, the more you can avoid humid, sweat and undesired elements, the better!
  • What is gold plated / filled?
Gold plated is known as gold dipped. In most instances, brass or copper is used as the base metal that is dipped in a coat of real gold to produce elegant affordable jewellery. Gold plated is a cheaper alternative to gold filled and gold jewellery pieces. Please avoid any contact with water or harsh chemicals, as it can damage the outer coat and cause the gold plating to tarnish. Gold filled jewellery pieces are very durable and with care, tend to last longer than gold plated. Naturally, gold filled has more real gold than gold plated. Gold filled jewellery is the alternative to solid gold. However, both can last a very long time with the right maintenance and care.
  • What metal is the gold Dahab Jewellery made of?
Dahab Jewellery plate our pieces between 9 - 24K gold and some pieces are gold filled. Each Dahab Jewellery product / item will have its own unique description within the item's specification. It is highly recommended that you refer to the other drop downs in this section on how to effectively take care of your purchase(s) in order to preserve the longevity of your jewellery pieces.
  • What is white gold, silver and rhodium plated?"
White Gold is jewellery composed of a solid later of gold (typically constituting at least 5% of the item's total weight) mechanically bonded to a base of either sterling silver or some base metal. 925 Sterling Silver is an alloy of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. We plate our silver products for its natural colour. It is very common for silver jewellery to change colour over time if treated without proper care and maintenance (please refer to the other sections in the drop down regarding care and maintenance). This process is called tarnishing. You may be able to remove this over the surface and polish away with a soft cloth. Rhodium is one of the six platinum group metals and makes excellent plating material. Rhodium plated does not tarnish, so they will maintain their look over time, however, do not have a perfect shine or gloss as sterling silver that can tarnish without proper jewellery care and maintenance.
  • What metal is the silver looking Dahab Jewellery made of?
Dahab Jewellery plate our pieces in either sterling silver, white gold or rhodium plated. Each Dahab Jewellery product / item will have its own unique description within the specification.
